David Davidson

David was born in Farnham,
Surrey in 1950. He went to a preparatory school
in Seaford and thence to the King’s School,
Canterbury. He attended the Universities of
London, Oxford and Mainz and wrote his doctoral
thesis on the Roman Army. While undertaking
research for his thesis, he visited Croatia
for the first time.
He met Rajka in Mainz in 1984. They married
in Zagreb in 1989 and they have a daughter,
Emma, aged 13.
Rajka is also an archaeologist. After she completed
her doctorate in Zagreb, they moved to Oxford
in 1990. Following work in archaeological consultancy,
they became the founding partners of Archaeopress
(specialist archaeology publishers) in 1997.
David joined the B-CS in 1996 and became a member
of the committee in that year. Following the
death of Kathy Wilkes, he became Chairman in
2004.
